Session Notes for OHIG60 Prepared by D. Behrend, NVI, Inc./GSFC =========================================================== PURPOSE AND GENERAL NOTES =========================================================== The purpose of OHIG60 is twofold: (1) continuation of the strengthening of the regional TRF in the southern hemisphere, (2) support the target of opportunity of a close approach of Jupiter to a compact radio source (1922-224). Following a proposal from O. Titov (Geoscience Australia), the approach of Jupiter to the source 1922-224 to within 1.4 arcminutes at 00:19 UT of 19-Nov-2008 will be used to indicate the gravity retardation effect and test the theory of general relativity. The observing rate for the session is 256 Mbps. The schedule is divided into two parts. In the time bordering the approach event (323 21:00 UT through 324 10:00 UT) two subnets are observed: one subnet (2-4 stations) observes the target source (1922-224) plus a reference source (1958-179) in repetitive cycles, while the other subnet follows a regular OHIG-type observing. The remainder of the schedule (outside the bordering time) is observed with the full network and regular OHIG-type observing.
